The Old Rectory is set in 3.5 acres of mature gardens boasting a variety of ancient trees, open spaces, quiet hideaways and colourful beds, and borders. Each unit has its own private balcony and/or garden space where you can relax and take in the birdsong and listen to the wind whistling through the trees.
The Old Rectory was built in 1711 and many of the trees in the garden are over 200 years old creating a very special feeling of tranquility as well as a haven for the hundreds of birds that live in them.
The birdsong in spring and early summer is particularly special.
The many borders and beds around the gardens are designed to try and give all year round colour and interest from the hellebores and snowdrops that start to appear in February, the explosion of daffodils, tulips and alliums in spring and early summer and the vibrant displays of lupins, daisies, geraniums, geums, hydrangea and dahlias that last well into autumn.
There is plenty of space for children to play and explore with football nets, trampoline, and hidden nooks and crannies. And for the early risers, they can collect the freshly laid eggs for the chickens.
Guests are welcome to use our sanctuary space in the hidden garden where they can escape and enjoy the peace and quiet.
